Blood test

The thing about age is that the older you grow it deems you more susceptible to many of the Potential health risks and as such practioners had to  put you under various tests to ensure baby is safe and growing normally. 

Having reached 35 with my third kid I was asked to go for the gestational diabetics test despite the facts that I  do not show any symptoms of diabetics ie no glucose in urine stick tests;  no sudden weight gain ( am now 29 weeks and I have gained a total of 7kg which is quite decent. And baby didn't experience any growth spurts. .. size is predicted to be normal at 100g at this point); no history of diabetics at previous births. However,  doctor watt still insisted that I complete the test for gestational diabetics.... For the sake of the baby as it will impact development and delivery. So dutifully we went to the clinic on boxing day to carry out the tests.  Was told to fast the night before ie no food and water from 12 midnight onwards. They had to extract 2 vials of blood from me one to be taken before the glucose test and the other 2 hours after. I hated blood tests all this while because the doctors always finds it hard to locate my vein and takes a long time to tap and search for it. I hated the fact that when they missed they will use the syringe to poke andsearch, hoping to come across a nearby vein to puncture!  Well this was exactly what happened to me this round.  The first attempt failed for both counts... One taken by the nurse and the other by Dr Watt herself. Second attempt the nurse got a gp doctor on duty to extract the blood... she didn't managed to get the flow immediately but repositioned the syringe when it was already injected into me! Doctor watt who took my blood on the second attempt decided to abandon the first and gave up extracting from the same spot and went for the hand instead. She mentioned that it will be more painful. .. but to me it felt the best.. swift and quick without repositioning!  Appended are my battle scars with the needle...4 punctures in total.  Hopefully the results are good and there is no need for me to do further tests.
