The big R

Today the company took a big step to execute the Retrenchment exercise. This was planned by me and my staff  and we tried our best to cater to the wimps and fancies of both bosses and unions. Sadly we will be sending more than a thousand people away. The sustainability of the business is of paramount importance and we are heartened by the fact that our union has been with us all this while and understands the situation that the company is in. No one likes to be stuck in between. But what I learnt from this exercise... there is nothing that the people won’t stop at doing to survive. This includes the political corporate jungle. You need the support of your people to address these situations. Whoever has the loudest voice wins. This includes physical and verbal battles. I wonder if there is a need to go through this journey a second time to learn from the mistakes that we have made? 

Regardless We need to standby our decision and be firm, stick to the plans. Don’t sway with the wind. Be that beacon of light.
