Bleeding at belly button

Most newborns will have some oozing of blood from the belly button before and especially after the cord falls off. This can either occur right away, or may not appear until a week or more after the cord comes off. According to sites, It is especially common if the cord comes off within the first week of life from accidental tugging. Guess this was what happened to Nathan's. The confinement lady is not exactly the super gentle type.

The blood was first noticed during a diaper change. Understand from the nurses that this mild oozing of blood can go on for one or two weeks, and its pretty common so there is no need to worry. We were told to pack some gauze over the belly button under the diaper to prevent abrasion, and dry the area thoroughly after bath.

This is nathan on day 16!
