Nat suffered from high fever over the weekend. Fortunately it's not caused by Influenza, but definitely viral as the temperature went up to 39.9degrees.
Scared the hell out of us, as we tried all means of lowering her temperature from cold towels to wiping her down, had to rush her to the hospital as the temperature rises persistently. Spent more than 3 hours at the hospital as we waited for the various tests to be returned. Didn't help that Wendy wasn't exactly the likes of Veronica ( her favourite PD or rather mummy's favourite as she is always so ever gentle with Nat), she was a backup since Veronica didn't start her day as early. Beggars couldn't be choosers, right but next time I'll rather wait another hour for Veronica. First thing Wendy did was to check her palm and feet for waterblobs, then checked her ears, and finally throat. All seems normal, except the temperature. Wendy suspected influenza, and explained that she had seen a spike in influenza related fevers over the past weeks. Causes unsure, but what came to my mind at that instant was .. oh dear could it be SARS again?? Has anyone been to the house and had viral fever? Was it someone from the workplace since virus could survive for days?
Nat underwent some further tests and good thing all returned negative. Fortunately it wasn't influenza.. but definitely viral.. and she is unsure of which one.. In the end we were told to go home, monitor the situation for the time being. Nat was prescribed both Nuerofen ( For temp more than 38.5) and Paracetamol.
Nat's fever fluctuated for the next few days. I hardly slept as she was such a picky eater and super whinny when ill. Our heartaches for her as she lets out little sighs whilst she slept. We split key duties to make sure that she was well taken care of round the clock. Daddy is the key temperature reader and mummy the feeder, cuddler, entertainer.. She just wanted mummy all the time to the extent where I couldn't even place her in her cot and had to keep her close to me.
Temperature dropped to 37ish degree today and she had her first heat rash. Thought it was chicken pox - never had them so any reddish blobs are chicken pox to me. Goggled and finally found out and was convinced that it was just heat rash when we place her in an airconditioned room =). No need to see the PD again tomorrow. Hopefully she'll sleep through the itch and it'll go away tomorrow.

growing up
Nat is growing up real quickly and i hardly have the tenacity to keep up via my blog. I really admire the mothers who could multi task between couple of children, work, chores and rest. Mothers are such superwoman. Only when u've been through this process then u would understand what i meant. Not that i want to sing my own praises, i don't think dad would have the tenacity or self-sacrificial endurance to handle nat's needs on 100 percent basis. But that's ok as long as he provides emotional and mental support, help with chores, bring home the bacon and chauffeur us around.
Anyway back to main purpose of writing this entry...
Grandma told me that nat is learning how to stand on her own. She did a mini performance on the bed....stood up on her own and let go her hands to stand non-assisted. Was told she was so amazed with her own ability that she giggled and shake her little bums before she fell back down. O she also said 'wah' at the same time. An expression that she picked up from me. Way to go nat!

random thoughts
Hey you must be bored of my blog by now? always covering the usual topics ie breastfeeding la, how nat has grown la-ta-da. rarely any new updates, inconsistent writer who hardly has the time to update her blog. So what should i cover this time? one anonymous reader told me all she is interested in are the pics. wanted to upload more pics and videos for u but chris has accidentally erased my entries and so i can't load the pics this round. Sorry fan. . do visit again k as this time it's all words again.
Gotten a slr camera fairly recently. Learning how to use it and to do that i have to comb through every single page of the manual. Looking after nat and with work piling up there is just no time for myself anymore. That's part and parcel of parenthood huh?
So how is work? Been through a crazy budget cut recently as bosses wants to maintain their margins. Unless business does really well, don't foresee bonus to be great. Sometimes i wonder how i survive this long and at the rate i am going. Lack of sleep no longer has an effect on me. Really amazed that i can still think straight even with really little sleep. Yes, nat still keeps me awake at 2ish and wee mornings to get that quick comforting suckle. Would miss this once i wean her off successfully.
Since we have drifted to the usual topic of weaning. I must say looking back i never could have thought that i could survive breastfeeding for so long. Been 13 months already and only this week was nat rei n troduced to milk. Thanks to theresa, i bought my first can of Gain IQ. And artificially it worked. Why artificial? Cause it smells so vanillaish that it didn't smell like milk to me at all. You know that distinctive cow-ish flavour! Gain is super fragrant! Which appeals to picky tasters ! But no complains at least she like this brand and i could stop my trial and error! Eureka! Just this evening my dad was just saying howu difficult it was for me as a mother. Got to work, feed, no rest, endure the aching back and still not losing all my weight successfully. Sigh i am just not oneof those who gets back to shape easily. Colleague today just reminded me to take calcium else high chance of getting osteoporosis. So nat, when u read this in future don't think mummy is faking it when i complain about my bodyaches and ask for a long massage!

New Car Seat
I have always wanted to contribute to Nat's blog but never got down to doing so... I promised to do so before I start my new job on Monday, 15 Mar 2010 and today is the absolute deadline. Dun wana break my promise to baby Natalie :D
So here goes,
Now that Nat is 1 year old, we have upgraded her Infant car seat to a Toddler's one. The new car seat is lime green in colour, similar to that of our family car. We took Nat out for a spin over the weekend. Initially, we were quite apprehensive about the new seat. Nat has never took a liking for car seats as she prefers to be in Mummy's arm during car rides.
The new seat is significantly higher than the previous one. Nat can actually look out of the side window easily when she is placed on the seat. For some magical reason, Nat did not put up a struggle when we lower her onto the seat. (She put up a fierce fight when we tried to do so with the previous one) Instead, she was feeling the seat's cushion all over with her hands and looking all around her.
During the car ride, Nat was smiling... I mean literally beaming with her eyes wide open and she was exclaiming excitingly in her baby's language, "Wah Wah dah dah dah car car!". This did not happen for a while only but throughout the whole ride. I got distracted and look over my shoulder at her whenever I stopped at the traffic lights. She looked so sweet and innocent!!
When we finally reached home, Nat did not want to get out! Instead, She pointed her hand in a forward direction and shouted, "Dah Dah!". (Nat wanted to continue with the journey)

milk from bottle
I am not sure what came over nat now. She is rejecting milk from the bottle or in fact milk itself? Helper simply gave in to her whims and fancies and serves her what she wants which at this stage is juices. We are resorting to feed milk by the spoon. That didn't work very well either. Neither does on the rocks, heated, gluose fortified work. The only way she takes her milk is straight.. Straight from the source! She would wait till I reach home to have her night feeds. Because of this has been sleeping late, but this doesn't stop her from wanting milk in the wee hours! Am still waking up 2 to 3 times every night! Help!

Nat's Special Day!
It's my Bday today! Mummy has planned a special photography session for me with Sean Lau and I spent almost 3 hours changing out of my pretty little dresses of various colours. It was my first experience as a model and we all can't wait to see my very own portfolio! Daddy and mummy were both tired out as they tried all ways to make me laugh! From playing songs from 'Lady GaGa's album' to making me dance to nursery rhymes; playing peek a boo; dangling my favourite flash cards in front of the camera; kicking a soccer ball to shaking my favourite snack to entice me to crawl ahead. Of course the clever me also requested to take a couple of time-outs for a quick feed to make me feel all perky and ready to smile again. Mummy promise to post the pics on my blog once they are ready for collection.. hint: effects are similar to Anne Geddes' photos. So watch this space !
As one who loves everything new, my parents brought me over to the newly opened Sentosa Resort World for lunch. Surprisingly it was relatively crowded on a weekday even when Universal Studios has yet officially opened and we were there way before the preview screenings. We ended up having lunch at Chilis. Loved it there as young patrons like myself was given a colouring set to while away my time as I watch daddy and mummy enjoying their giantic burger sets and bottomless taco chips! Sunarti enjoyed herself as well given that this is her first trip to Sentosa. As of all newly opened resorts there is room for improvement. My greatest incovenience was due to the lack of baby changing rooms near the restaurants. Mummy and Daddy had to bring me all the way to Festive Hotel, which is a long walk from Chilis as we had to pass through the Galleria and head towards the Casinos before I could have a change of diapers. Can you imagine what happens if I did a Big one on my parents? Mummy fedback to the management and they are looking into this.
I was so happy to reach home today. Managed to take a nice cooling bath, read my books, play with my toys, poo'd and ate my black forest mini cake. Yi Yi came after work with a large cake but YAWNS.. wasn't able to wait.. anyways she'll be here again with Gong Gong tomorrow to shower me with lotsa hugs and kisses. Popo is away in Malaysia today, but that's ok cause she has accompanied me the whole of this week and given me so many new Fisherprice and little Einstine toys to play with! Check out my pre bday treats for details! Would spend Sunday with Ye Ye and Nai Nai.. yet another set of lovely presents awaiting for me...
